October 19, 1987, was the largest one day percentage drop in stock market history. There were plenty of signs leading up to the crash, however most traders chose to ignore them. Economic growth had soured and inflation was increasing at a rapid pace. Interest rates began to increase and investors began to offload their stocks and place sell orders on the previous Friday.
